Buy a House or an Apartment?

Buying a property is not an easy decision, especially a luxury property. It is a huge investment which requires a lot of planning and often saving. Among many of the aspects we need to consider is whether to buy a house or an apartment. In Spain, apartment living is very popular, especially in the city centres and beachfronts. So let us help you decide which the best option for you is.

Location:

If you wish to be in the centre of a city in Spain, you are going to have a hard time to find a house. Most city centres are full of apartment buildings of different size, age and style. If you’re set on living in a big home with lots of garden space or land, then be prepared to be further away from the hustle and bustle of city life. That doesn’t mean you have to compromise on luxury, but it may mean downsizing, as space is limited in cities.

On the outskirts you have more freedom. There’s the option to live in housing estates, hillsides, beachfronts, in either apartments or houses. There is obviously a lot more privacy the further away from other people you are. The good thing about the Costa Blanca is there are many options for all different wants and needs of buyers.

Swimming Pool:

Do you want your own swimming pool? Then that’s a given in your own luxury home. Most apartments outside the city centre also have pool facilities, but they are often shared. If you want your own private pool and live in an apartment there are penthouses and rooftop options, but those are definitely limited. Living in Spain means enjoying the summer weather and cooling down in the pool, having a pool party, or even using it for exercise. Many people prefer the pool than the beach. The main issue here is how much importance you give to your property having its own private pool. If your answer is “a lot”, then a house will almost definitely be the choice for you.

Outdoor Space:

Your priorities change depending on your circumstances. If you have a large family, you’ll probably want a lot of garden space for your children, and possibly pets, to run freely around in. This is always limited when living in an apartment. If, however, you live alone, or with a partner, a large outdoor area may not be necessary if you have a big enough balcony to entertain guests. You may also prefer to be in close proximity to bars and restaurants, and an apartment closer to amenities which suit your lifestyle take precedence.

Security:

Undoubtedly, apartments are a safer option than houses. With most apartment blocks there are two locked entrances on the ground floor before even reaching your front door. Most luxury apartments have lift access available only with a key. Break-ins from the outside are almost impossible if you live higher than the first floor. Some high-end apartments also hire security to patrol the complex, and almost all shared swimming pools have a lifeguard.

Houses are much different. You are very much open to being the target of a robbery if you live in a non-gated community. Your impressive house screams money, and without a security system in place you are vulnerable. It’s definitely a worst case scenario, but also one you have to consider.

Rooms:

Whether you live in a house or an apartment, you’ll enjoy your beautiful living room, bedrooms and kitchen, to whatever style and design you choose. With an apartment, it’ll probably end there. You may have space for a gym room, or a rooftop bar, but a house is open to install so much more. Many luxury houses have basements, fit for cinema rooms, game rooms, bars, and gyms. There’s the option of a guest house, a pool house, a spa room. You’ll have your own private double or triple garage to not only park your cars, but potentially showcase them!

Neighbours:

We’ve all had negative experiences with neighbours. Like family, you can’t choose them, but you can avoid them! In a house you can be completely detached and, depending on the property, fairly far away from anyone. Even if your garden backs on to someone else’s, you won’t you need to hear their music through the walls, or furniture moving above, unlike in an apartment.

In the end, everyone has their own tastes, needs and wants. Weighing up the options, the more expensive house seems to tick more boxes than the apartment. Let us know if there is anything else we may have forgotten to consider!

Where to a Buy Luxury Spanish Home?

The Best Locations to Buy a Luxury Home in Spain

Spain is a country that attracts people from all over the world. Not only do people come to enjoy a short summer break. More and more wealthy homeowners are eyeing up a luxury property on the Iberian Peninsula in search of a better life.

Spain has luxury homes by the bucket and spade load. Whether it’s a traditional country home, an inner city apartment, or a contemporary villa, there is something for everyone and every budget. The main question, as it always is with real estate, is where to buy? Location is everything.

So, let us take you through your options to let you decide which luxury home location is the right one for you.

Luxury homes in Barcelona:

The capital of Catalonia has so much to offer. The typical European city combines cosmopolitan living with traditional Spain. There’s art, fashion, architecture, start-up businesses, and beaches. It’s no wonder then that a short car journey into local coastal towns hosts an array of luxury houses and villas. There are also apartments in the grid like layout of the city centre. If you want a balcony overlooking the Sagrada Familia, be prepared to delve deep into your pockets and have a lot less space. Barcelona is also one of the world’s most visited cities. If you live here, you are sure to encounter a lot of tourists.

Luxury Homes in San Sebastian:

On the north coast you can find one of Spain’s lesser-known gems. There is a wealthy community living in one of the priciest cities for a reason. It’s a beautiful place with a rich culture. In close proximity to the border of France, driving distance to ski resorts in the Pyrenees, and neighbour to the bigger Bilbao, its location has a lot going for it. It’s also ideal for people that aren’t such fans of the hotter climates of the south. You’re more likely to find rural country houses on offer here than a modern villa. Yet that’s not to say they don’t exist. You can find apartments in traditional buildings in the city centre for under a million euros. Just don’t expect to get more than 2 or 3 bedrooms.

Luxury Homes Costa del Sol:

Famed for its wealth, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to luxury houses in this area of Spain. The hills surrounding Marbella are often referred to as the Spanish Beverley Hills. And there’s no doubt as to why. Dotted across the region are the modern white contemporary villas in all shapes and sizes. The “sunny coast” isn’t named coincidentally. With its balmy temperatures all year round, one who seeks luxury will find it here. There’s a major airport in Malaga which is a bonus for international residents, and there is an array of people of different nationalities who have decided to call it home. If you own a yacht, it you’ll have plenty of options for where to moor. So, if you’re looking to pay 1 million, or 20 million, you’ll be sure to find your dream home.

Luxury Homes in Madrid:

The capital city of Spain is fit for a king. The royal palace is not for sale however. If it’s good enough for his highness, it’s good enough for you. The luscious green surrounding towns of Madrid are also home to some of the most famous Spanish celebrities and footballers. Being a capital city, you can imagine the endless amount of culture and entertainment available if you’re looking for a fulfilled lifestyle. You can find amazing rooftop terraced penthouse apartments in the city centre, although you must be willing to spend over 5 million euros. In Madrid, you’re paying for the busy city lifestyle. If you’re a business person, you’re probably going to need to be in the business centre of Spain. This doesn’t mean you have to live without luxury. It does mean you will have to live without a beach nearby though.

Luxury Homes Costa Blanca:

Anywhere along the coast from Alicante to Valencia, you can find the most up and coming luxury real estate in all of Spain. Rivalling the Costa del Sol, the “white coast”, named for its glorious white sandy beaches, is rapidly becoming the most sought-after area to buy in. Why? Well, unlike other locations on this list, this region still has the best euro/metre squared price ratio available. Now is the time to buy here, before the luxury property market truly does explode and take over from its more southern competition. With well-connected airports in Alicante and Valencia, only 2 hour train journeys to Madrid, and a 30 minute flight to Ibiza, the location is indisputable. The climate also isn’t as intense here as it is in southern Spain, which many international buyers prefer. What about the luxury properties themselves? There is a plethora of options for everyone: modern apartments, incredible villas, traditional chalets, family homes. You can choose to be hidden away in the mountains, or perched right in front of the beach.

So where do we recommend for buying a luxury home in Spain? Due to its international and regional travel connections, close proximity to amazing cultural city hubs like Valencia and Alicante, endless beaches, and perfect climate, the Costa Blanca has to be considered as the best destination to own a property in Spain. Not only that, you get more bang for your buck here than anywhere else in Spain.

Top 5 Essentials for a Luxury House

The 5 Essentials All Luxury Houses Must Have!

So, you’re rich. Or at least imagine you are. You’re looking for a new luxury home in Spain. What are those essential parts of a house that you don’t want to live without?

Every home has a kitchen and bedrooms. But a luxury house in Spain needs a wow factor. You could be spending millions after all. Let’s delve into the top 5 essentials that your new luxury home in Spain must have!

1. A Swimming Pool

If you live in Spain, especially the Costa Blanca, and you don’t have a swimming pool in your luxury house, then why are you wasting your time even touring the property? The question should really be which type of pool to have. Sunken? Infinity? Long? Round? You’re going to be spending a lot of time at home in the summer, enjoying refreshing yourself. You may even prefer a pool than the beach. Not to mention the amount of visitors you’re going to want to invite to hang out in the water. It would be hard to find a modern home without a swimming pool included, but the options will vary. So take to time to think about your needs and wants and get the pool that suits your lifestyle.

2. A Gym

A home gym screams luxury. And Spain is hot. You’re going to showing your body a lot. When touring a luxury home its uncommon to see a gym already set up. You may need to use your imagination. Take a look at some of the bedrooms you may not use. The garage space is also popular to set up a gym. Some, but not all, luxury homes have basements. This cool area is an ideal spot to place a gym room. Why sweat it out with others, waiting to use equipment, when you can invite your gym buddy round to your new modern home and use the facilities as and when you like? It’s a no brainer for a luxury home owner wanting to live a healthy life.

3. A Cinema Room

We’d be lying if we hadn’t considered this more due to the recent global pandemic. Home-owners priorities have begun to change. It may not be your initial thought to close yourself away in a dark room for hours when living in the sunny Costa Blanca. Yet with more and more people using their home for multiple reasons in recent years, enjoying a film or a series in your own home-cinema will make your house stand out from the rest. Modern living rooms are often seen to be a little too formal for munching popcorn and Netflix and “chilling”…

4. A Home Office

If you’re wealthy enough to be living in a luxury modern Spanish home, the chances are you may also be an important part of a business. This requires spending much of your time working. Rather than having your laptop perched on, well, your lap, why not splash out on creating a home office fit for a CEO? It adds prestige to a luxury home. It may be your Spanish holiday home, and you need a place to get back to work now and again. You may need to hold a meeting outside the office, and where better than the comfort of your own property?

5. A Smart Home

The year at time of writing is 2021. And your home isn’t set up with the latest tech? How embarrassing. A luxury home in Spain must have computerised blinds controlled by an installed iPad, or from your phone. Alexa, Google, Siri have to be your new housemates. How can you throw the best party of the summer if you can’t control the music for the whole property? Now, let’s not get greedy, everyone has a budget. If you’re buying a luxury house in Spain, you must have at least some modern technology installed, or with the outlets built in to be able to install them at a later date. Temperature control, air purification, lighting, security cameras, the list goes on. Get the basics and live the most modern lifestyle you can.

How Much To Build Your Dream Home in Spain?

In this post we explore how much it costs to build your own dream property in Spain, the pros, cons, and everything else you need to know.

Recently we visited a newly constructed home by Toni. Along with his partner Miriam, he decided he wanted to construct his dream home. He couldn’t find the home he desired so took it upon himself to buy some land and construct it for himself.

Here is a summary of what we will explore in this blog post:

  • Cost of land to build on
  • How much you can expect to pay an architecture in Spain
  • The price of labour and materials
  • Interior design costs
  • Final overall price of building your dream home

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus your own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.
